Your Role as a Consultant in Risk & Compliance at Fortrum

The role of a Consultant in Risk & Compliance is multifaceted and crucial in helping organisations navigate the complex landscape of financial regulations and compliance standards. This role involves a blend of analytical, advisory, and leadership skills, tailored to ensure that clients not only meet but exceed the regulatory requirements set by governing bodies. Here’s a detailed look at the key responsibilities and functions of this role:

  1. Regulatory Expertise and Advisory: A Risk & Compliance Consultant is expected to have thorough knowledge of relevant regulations and laws. This includes staying updated with the latest changes in regulations like the European Banking Authority (EBA) guidelines (LoAM, NPE, DoD), Dutch legislation such as BW (Burgerlijk Wetboek), Wft (Wet op het financieel toezicht), BGfo (Besluit Gedragstoezicht financiële ondernemingen), and guidelines from authorities like the AFM (Autoriteit Financiële Markten). The Consultant advises clients on how to comply with these regulations effectively.

  1. Risk Assessment and Management: Identifying, assessing, and managing risks that an organisation faces is a core part of the role. This involves conducting risk assessments and gap analyses to determine areas where the organisation is not in compliance with the applicable regulations and suggesting measures to mitigate these risks.

  1. Policy Development and Implementation: Developing and implementing policies and procedures that enforce compliance with regulatory requirements. This includes creating frameworks and controls to ensure ongoing compliance.

  1. Training and Mentoring: Educating and training staff within the client organisation on risk and compliance-related matters. This role also involves acting as a mentor to other team members within Fortrum, guiding them on best practices in risk and compliance.

  1. Audit and Compliance Review: Conducting audits and regular compliance reviews to ensure that the client organisation adheres to legal standards and internal policies. This includes preparing reports and documentation for clients and/or third parties.

  1. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with various stakeholders within the client’s organisation, including senior management, to develop a risk and compliance culture. This also involves liaising with regulators and external auditors.

  1. Project Management: Managing projects focused on compliance and risk management. This involves ensuring that projects meet their objectives within the given scope, time, and budget constraints.

  1. Strategic Planning: Assisting client organisations in integrating compliance and risk management strategies into their overall business strategy. This includes providing insights and recommendations on how to align business goals with regulatory requirements.

  1. Problem Solving and Decision Making: Offering solutions to complex regulatory challenges and making informed decisions to guide clients through regulatory hurdles.

  1. Continuous Learning and Development: Staying abreast of the latest trends and developments in the field of risk and compliance to provide the most current and effective solutions to clients.
